Rondebosch Cricket Club
After the 2nd world war the Maritz brothers purchased a piece of land just above the Liesbeek River in the suburb of Rondebosch.
The ground was turned into a sports club for war veterans and was known as the Marist War memorial club where member played bowls, football and cricket.
The main interest was bowls and the first bowls match to place in 1949.
Marist Brothers also built a large club house on the land which housed a bar, Entertainment hall and a clubhouse for the bowls section, within the main club. Cricket came later and the old farmhouse on the property was converted into a club house for the cricket and football.
The Main club was a source of entertainment, and a venue used for weddings, birthday parties and sports functions.
The club and bar had been operating since 1949 until in 2008 due to decline in membership the club was approached by a property developer to convert some of the land into a residential complex, but the Marist club would retain a portion of the ground for a new club house, cricket oval and a bowling green.
This process took almost ten years of discussions with the City Council the local residents and the existing club and in January 2017 work on the site, which meant the demolishing of the existing club house and surrounding buildings and the construction of a new club house, new bowls pavilion and new playing fields
Marist War Memorial Sports Club has been in existence for just under 70 years and has lived in harmony with the surrounding residents and hopefully with the new development will provide facilities within the estate to support and encourage green livin.

During the period up to unification of the to cricket federations, the club’s first team was neither promoted nor relegated. During this period the club continued to grow. By 1990, we had 3 senior teams and 5 junior teams.
When WPCA was formed, Strandfontein CC’s first team was placed in the 2A division where we stayed for 16 years before gaining promotion by winning that league. In the meanwhile, the club consistently had 4 senior teams and more than 5 junior teams playing in the leagues.
Nine years later we won the 1B league and due to covid, the next 2 seasons were incomplete and during the 2018/19 season gained promotion to the premier league, Sadly, we were relegated the next season and are currently still competing in the 1A division.

United Cricket Club
Background of United Cricket Club.
United Cricket Club is the standard bearer of one of the richest traditions of cricket in South Africa. The Club was formed in 1976 and its history can be traced back to the formation of the Western Province Coloured Cricket Union (WPCCU) way back in 1890.
The ravages of the Group Areas Act took its toll in the form of forced removals .With most teams unable to field more than one team it was decided to merge the remaining teams to form United Cricket Club.
Our commitment and success as a Club has and will always be producing crickets from our juniors structure. Whilst this is impacted by former model C schools we have found ways to keep this alive.
