Background
The Western Province Over-40 T20 League was established in 2021 with a modest eight clubs. Since then, the league has experienced significant growth, expanding to include a total of 24 clubs. The inaugural Club Championship Final in 2020 saw Pinelands CC emerge as the victor. In subsequent years, Montrose CC (2021), made it to the Club Championship Final, showcasing the competitive nature of the league.
All Vet T20 games are played on a Wednesday afternoon, commencing at 15:45 PM. This consistent scheduling ensures a regular and enjoyable experience for both players and spectators. The league has also achieved notable success in the IPT (Inter-Provincial Tournament). The Western Province Over-40 T20 League has secured IPT championship titles in both the Over-40 (2022) and Over-50 (2023) categories, demonstrating its dominance at the provincial level.
National Representation
Western Province has long been a powerhouse in South African cricket, and this dominance extends to the veteran ranks. The province has consistently produced exceptional players who have represented the country at the highest level, including numerous Proteas.
The Western Province Veterans Cricket Association is particularly proud of its contribution to national teams. Here are just a few highlights:
- IPT Over 40: Seven players from Western Province were selected for the South African IPT Over 40 team. This impressive representation showcases the region’s depth and talent.
- IPT Over 50: Western Province also boasts a strong presence in the IPT Over 50 squad, with ten players earning national call-ups.
- SA Invitational Over 40: Six of the players selected for the SA Invitational Over 40 team hail from Western Province, further solidifying the region’s reputation as a breeding ground for top-quality cricketers.
