Round 3, Week 2 Match Results

In a week that seemed to be dominated by great performances by opening batting pairs, we were yet again treated to some prolific cricket by gents who continue to prove that this league is indeed where legends play on.

Victoria CC vs Primrose CC

Primrose visited Chukker Road to take on the gents of Victoria CC. The hosts won the toss and elected to bat. After an early wicket, Munier Holliday 30(36) and Egon Rushin with a quickfire 47(22), just shy of a half century posted 131/6. Goolam Taliep and Igsaan Damon each picked up 2 wickets. In the second innings, Saadiek Davids got off to a great start with a solid 71(57) and earned himself a man of the match title. Moenier Allie later added 41(26) and secured the win with 132/3 in 20. Quinton Bailey the pick of the bowlers with 1/24.

Yorkshire CC vs Fish Hoek CC

The hosts won the toss and sent the visitors to the crease. Opener, Craig Miller 47(35) and later, Peter Jones contributed 26(22) and steered the hosts to 118/7 in their 20. Feroz Shaik picked up 3 sticks in just 2 overs. Openers, Rashaad Abrahams 52(43) and Zahir Kamaldien 41(52) made great work of setting the tempo but the rest of the batting order couldn’t quite gain momentum, eventually ending on 116/7 in their allotted 20. Peter Jones the pick of the bunch with 2/11 in 3.

WPCC vs United CC

Western Province hosted United. The hosts won the toss and chose to bat. Rich Levesque 39(34) and Tal Nieburg 26(33) set the visitors a target of 119/7. Brent Paterson railed through the batting lineup, picking up 3 wickets for 13 runs in his 4 overs. United’s openers responded, Shuray Booley 54(50) and Fagmie Sassman 48*(47) carried the visitors to victory, ending on 123/1. Graeme Cann picked up 1 wicket for his efforts.

Rylands CC vs Pinelands CC

Pinelands CC travelled to Rylands where the hosts won the toss and chose to bat. The openers, Mohammed Ebrahim 64(61) and Divyesh Patel 36(21) set the hosts up for a defendable 153/3. Marius Appolis picked up 2 sticks in his 4 overs. Fundo Meysikiso 30(33) and Gavin Lyners 29*(26) attempted to pick away at the target but it was not meant to be and Pinelands fell short at 122/4 in their 20. Abdul Saiet, the pick of the bowlers with just 13 in his allotted 4.

Blue Bells CC vs Claremont CC

The lads from Claremont visited Rooikrans to take on Blue Bells. The hosts won the toss and headed to the crease. Ismail Behardien 63(49) and Nezaam Sambo 33*(23) took charge and led Blue Bells to a convincing 175/5. Barry Narramore picked up 2 wickets in his 4 overs. Jacques Engelbrecht 80(58) and Mark Ferrao 38(26) responded with what looked to be a landslide but in a spectacular turn, captain Ismail Behardien relieved the wicket keeper, Nizaam Khereker of his duties behind the stumps and tossed him the ball with Claremont needing 16 runs from 12 balls. Nizaam rose to the occasion, taking 3 wickets and facilitating a run out in his only over and guided to his team to a phenomenal win with Claremont ending 8 short on 167/8.

Montrose CC vs Rondebosch CC

Rondebosch visited Malta Park to take on Montrose. The visitors won the toss and opted to bowl. Danzil Martin 28*(37) and Adi Jackson 23*(14) set the visitors a target of 108/5. Paul Du Plessis, pick of the bowlers with 1/13 in 4 overs. Rondebosch couldn’t quite get going, Colin Myburgh with 21(15) and Keith Ingram 11(17) was not enough and the visitors fell short on 80 all out in 16.3 overs. Adi Jackson picked up 3/14 in 4 overs. 

NGCC vs Durbanville CC

Durbanville  won the toss and opted to bat. Jaco De Jager 75*(48) and Sean Ackerman 38(32) steered to hosts to 157/4 in their 20 overs. Marvin De Kock took 2/24 in 4. After a few early wickets, Vivian Engelbrecht 24(10) and Dawie De La Guerre 22(15) attempted to chip away at the target but unfortunately fell short at 126 all out with 2 balls to spare. Mike Brown 4/25 and Martin van der Merwe 3/25 made easy work of knocking off the wickets. 

Another brilliant display from the lads with both bat and ball. The gents from group A are up again on today.
