Round 2, Week 2 Match Results

The second week of round2 arrived with much anticipation, as Proteas legend, Jacques Kallis made his Western Province Veterans league debut, padding up for Claremont Cricket Club. The excitement to watch the legend at the crease was short-lived when he was run out in the first over.  All in all though a great week of cricket with some more half tons and great bowling displays.

Montrose vs Yorkshire
Yorkshire visited Montrose, where they won the toss and sent the hosts to the crease. Monties’ batsmen Roger Petersen scored 47*(29) and Adi Jackson 42*(43) both ending the innings not out and posting a total 160/5. Carl Beukes was the pick of the bowling attack with his 2/23.
Aloudien Ahmed attempted to make easy work of the target, a fell just shy of a half ton with 49(41) but unfortunately it was not to be and Montrose bowlers cemented the 4 points. Devon Kriel picking up 3 sticks for 18 in his 4.
WPCC vs Rondebosch CC
WPCC played host to Rondebosch. The hosts won the toss and opted to bat. A solid 52*(53) from Steve Palframan, supported by Rikus Walters’ 44(30) set the visitors a target of 146-4 in their allotted 20. Paul du Plessis picked up 2 sticks for 19 in his 4. The visitors then responded with man of the match, Dave Bakker scoring 55*(51) supported by Reza Khan’s 29(19), securing the win with 147-7. The bowlers attempted a solid attack, with Rory Millam, the pick of the bunch with his 2/29.
Northerns Goodwood v Fish Hoek
The lads from Fish Hoek travelled to the north, where the hosts won the toss and decided to bat. Herman Calitz went work, scoring 58*(56) and awarded man of the match for his efforts. Danie De la Geurre added 25(28) and the Northerns boys posted 117(7).
Grant Snowball with 36(27) and Craig Miller with 20(23) attempted an attack but fell short at 115/8 in their 20, and Northerns Goodwood secured the win at home. Vivian Engelbrecht picked up 2/27 in his 4.
Victoria vs Durbanville
Durbanville travelled to Chukker Road to take on Victoria. The hosts won the toss and opted for the bat. The hosts couldn’t really get going with the bat. Gary Fourie with 20(19) and Munier Holliday with 19*(23) were the pick of the batsmen. The hosts managed just 102 all out in their 20. The Durbanville bowling attack was solid with 4 bowlers each picking up 2 wickets, Michael Dunn with 2/6 in 4 was the pick of the bunch.
44*(32) from Delmar van der Walt and 23(24) from Sean Ackerman secured the visitors walked away with the points, finishing with 113/5. Warren Wyngaard picked up 2/22 for his efforts. 
Claremont vs Primrose
Arguably the most anticipated game of the week, saw Claremont with the addition of Proteas great, Jacques Kallis take on 2023/24 league winners, Primose. The visitors won the toss and opted for the bat. Faldie Abderouf with 54*(43) and Saadiek Davids 50*(47) made easy work of the Claremont bowling attack posting 157-3. Ryan Cooper topping the bowling stats with 2/26 in 4. 
Richard Wallace with 37(25) and Duane Viljoen with 25(18) attempted to attack the target but it wasn’t meant to be and Claremont fell short at just 118-9. Sharhidd Taliep topped the bowling stats with 9/16 in his 4.
United vs Blue Bells
Blue Bells also visited Chukker Road to face United. The hosts won the toss and chose to bat. The batting attack couldn’t quite get going. Reza Salie with his 22*(21) and Ziyaad Desai’s 21(14) saw the hosts end on 106-8. Man of the match, Ebrahim Shade picked up 3 sticks for 4 in his 4. Ebrahim then led the batting attack with his 39(36) backed up by Redah Johaadien’s 26(31) secured the win for the visitors, ending on 113-6. Kashief Abdullah took 2/247 in his 4.
