Round 2, Week 1 Match Results

Once again this week was filled with highlights. There were three more centuries, Brackenfell’s Werner Moolman and Wiaan Smit both scored centuries while Green Point’s Andrew Sheel scored a record 122. On the bowling front Milnerton’s Craig Herman picked up a 5-for. Added to that, a few half centuries rounded off this week of highlights.

Pinelands CC Vs Mitchell’s Plain CC

The gents from Mitchell’s Plain travelled to Pinelands where they won the toss and opted to bat. Openers, Ricardo Moses with 36(31) and Douglas Nienhaus with 26(42) carried the visitors’ innings, the rest of the batting lie up unfortunately not coming off and posting an attainable 95/10. Man of the match, Garth Newman and William Botha picked up 3 and 2 wickets respectively. Pinelands batsmen, Garth Newman scored 35*(25) and Gavin van Rooyen scored 25*(22) to take Pinelands to a win at 96/2. Grant Scheepers picked up 2 sticks.

Saints vs Wynberg CC

The Saints lads hosted Wynberg CC. The hosts won the toss and sent the visitors to the crease. Ricky Bowers and Joseph O’Connor scored 23 each. WCC set 128/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Man of the match, Wayne Martin took 3 wickets and Leaveil Jarvis picked up 2. Martin with 47(40) and Deon Newkirk with 39*(36) made light work of the chase scoring 129/4 with 2.1 overs to spare giving Saints their first win of the season. Aqeel Cupido and Brent Jacobs each took 2 wickets, their first for WCC Vets.

CTCC vs Rylands CC

Rylands visited The Boon Wallace to take on Cape Town CC. The visitors won the toss and opted to bat. Opener, Mohammed Ebrahim top scored at 51(42) and together with man of the match, Wilbur Goliath scoring 39(30) took Rylands to a target of 183/4. David Botha with figures 2/26 was the pick of the bowlers, supported by Wesley Henry who went for 18 runs in his 3 overs. The Cape Town chase was a bit of a mixed bag, Nhur Moerat added 35(34) and Sean Brown 32(16) but unfortunately the lads fell short, ending all out for 143. Khalil Khan and Zunaid Wagley each took 2 wickets, taking Rylands to their second win.

Brackenfell CC vs Strandfontein CC

Brackenfell welcomed Strandfontein. The lads from the north won the toss and opted to bat. Werner Moolman and Wiaan Smit put on quite the show, each picking up a ton, Werner with 103*(55) and Wiaan 101(50) taking the target to a whopping 257/0. Hilary Dawson with 35(30) and Grant Ohlson with 19(20) made a go for it but unfortunately the Brackenfell bowlers were on the attack with Shahied Pieters’ 4/5 and Jaco Mong’s 2/5 restricting Strandfontein to 88/10.

Milnerton CC vs Green Point CC

Green Point visited Milnerton where the hosts won the toss and chose to bat. A half century from Ryan Milne 57(45) and 34(19) from Justin du Toit saw the hosts post a defendable 185/5. Brian Reid took 2 wickets and Taariq Jakoet took 1. The hosts took to the field and Craig Herman led the attack picking up 5/19. Andrew Sheele however replied with a league top score of 122(55), it was unfortunately not meant to be and Green Point fell just 6 shy of the target.

Ottoman CC vs Hanover Park CC

Ottoman CC hosted neighbours, Hanover Park CC. The hosts won the toss and headed to the crease. Man of the match, Farhaan Behardien ended not out on 59(31) and Taahir Adams contributed 41(37) to take Ottoman to 160/6 in their allotted 20. Kevin Greentree and Mika-Eel Ryneveldt each picked up 2 sticks. Shafwaan Doutie’s 22(23) and Niezaam Adams’ 18(16) was not enough and Hanover Park fell 67 runs short. Nawaldien Abrahams picked 3 sticks and Isgak Martin 1 to restrict Hanover Park and secure the win.

Another spectacular week of quality cricket. Every week seems to see more league highlights, more personal achievements, great show of sportsmanship and camaraderie. We go again with Week 2 next Wednesday.
